After a one-year absence, the Midwest Distance Summit is back this year at North Central College.  This year, it will be a one-day affair on Saturday, August 9th.  We have a tremendous line-up this year, featuring some excellent Midwest coaches from both high-school and collegiate level.  They represent some of the finest minds in distance running in the Midwest and throughout the United States.  The line-up for 2008 features the following excellent presenters:

  • Paul Vandersteen, Neuqua Valley High School, Naperville, Illinois.  Paul runs an emerging distance program that features the defending Nike Team National Champions.

  • Jim Spivey, former U.S. Olympian.  Jim is one of the finest distance runners Illinois and the United States have produced, and now he has tremendous experience coaching as well.

  • Jessica Strand, Jessica is a PT, DPT, ATC (a.k.a. physical therapist, doctorate of physical therapy, certified athletic trainer).  She specializes in sports medicine and outpatient orthopedics.

  • Wendel McRaven, University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, Illinois.  Wendel is the director of the cross-country and distance track program at the University of Illinois.  Under his tutelage, the U of  I has begun a rapid ascent up the ranks of the Big Ten.

  • Tom Mittman, Iowa City High School, Iowa City, Iowa.  Tom directs Iowa's finest girls' distance programs and one of the country's most successful high school girls' programs.

  • Gary Wilson, coach at University of Minnesota and formerly coach University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.  Gary has extensive experience at multiple levels.  His enthusiasm and expertise brought the University of Minnesota women's program to the top of the Big Ten.

Please browse this site for information on registration and scheduling for the weekend.  We truly hope to see you there for an excellent return of the Midwest Distance Summit for 2008!
